Basket. Is Caen Nord already condemned to relegation?

No one imagined a party of pleasure for the Basket Caen North this season, but no one had seen the carnage recorded since September coming. The CNB, without any real reinforcements in the off-season after the many departures of the previous summer, is penultimate in the men’s National 3 with only three victories on the clock. The first non-relegation counts double the success. Seven days from the end, the outcome seems inevitable.
The calendar, the tiny hope
Sandra Dijon, the local coach, however refuses to give up. “I still believe in it,” she insists. All the matches that we have to win quickly will be played at home. Caen’s only hope surely lies in a favorable calendar. By the end of the championship, Caen Nord will welcome Rueil (9ᵉ), Marly le Roi (12ᵉ and last), Barjouville (10ᵉ) and Le Mans Saint-Pavin (8ᵉ). He will also have a short trip to Hérouville (7ᵉ).
We have to manage to win a game to put our heads back together. I have confidence in my group.
Sandra Dijon does not hide her face for as much. “It’s a very complicated season,” she admits bluntly. Winner of 12 out of 18 matches in 2019-2020, Caen Nord Basket has since completely collapsed. The former European champion evokes “a lot of hazards”. The rapid departure of his assistant Boris Dadeke is probably not the least. “Having an assistant was the condition for me to come. I am new to this level, I cannot see everything or manage everything. »
“I’m just for the level”
At Caen Nord, Sandra Dijon has “often felt helpless” since her arrival last summer. Lacking experience in this role, she could not rely on a group that was however old. “Aging”, even, with his well-packed thirty-year-olds.
I’m just for the level. It’s no secret to anyone and I’ve never hidden it. My five executive players know this championship perfectly. I told them that I was waiting for a helping hand from them…
The former Mondevillaise believes that she has not improved despite the players experienced in National 3. “I have the feeling that they no longer want to. They are there to have fun. I can understand it. The coach’s speech doesn’t really seem to get through. “I try to bring my basket but I am aware that it is not enough. »
“The land belongs to them”
Fleeing her responsibilities, there is no question for Sandra Dijon. “The questioning must be general,” she said. We have to find ways to get there together without hiding behind excuses. With Boris Renaux, Pierre Hébert or Franck Mpondo, the talent is there. “I have a major five, at the base, of N2 at the bottom of the table. “But the performances are not always there and the lack of rotations is glaring. If to this is added a random will, the result is only too logical.
When we take 61 points against Bezons (108-47) when we won the first leg by 14 points, is it the coach’s fault? Maybe, but I’m not in the field.
The CNB expects at least a reaction of pride from its troop, limited by a small workforce and kept capable of much better. “I told the guys: the pitch belongs to them. For my part, I will go all the way. I make a lot of mistakes when it comes to coaching, but I try my best. »
