Spatial concept approved by the municipal council – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – The spatial concept of the municipality of Vaduz brings together various current plans in relation to spatial development. It covers the entire municipal area. The focus WILL be placed on the settlement areas and the valley floor. The concept has been developed since December 2020 by a working group accompanied by the building and planning commission. Now the municipal council approved it.
The basis for the new concept was created by a comprehensive analysis of the population, economy and mobility, existing buildings, building zone reserves and needs. This was announced by the municipal administration on Wednesday. The Vaduz population is growing moderately but continuously. People are getting older, while household sizes are getting smaller. In Vaduz there are only twice as many employees as residents and 85 percent of the employed people are commuters. “These are typical indications of a place with an important central function,” it continues.
All considerations within the framework of the concept are based on the guiding principle for the spatial development of Vaduz: “Vaduz’s spatial strategy aims to maintain and create a sustainable settlement, open space and transport infrastructure in order to create an attractive place to live and a high-performing place of work with an urban To be the center of the location and its role as the state capital with the appropriate supply, education, sports and cultural offerings. Vaduz pursues a resource-saving approach to scarce land and an optimization of the various space requirements.”
The path to the goal succeeds via four coordinated sub-strategies:
- Clear settlement structures must be formed and the existing reserves must be used prudently.
- The local recreation areas are to be upgraded and their accessibility secured.
- The mobility offer WILL be geared towards development and use.
- Key areas and functional focal points are developed on the basis of overall urban planning concepts. The key areas include the center, the university, the Wille area and the Rheinpark Stadion and Mühleholz areas.
Subsequent steps have been defined for the achievement of goals, which are created and implemented in the short, medium or long term. “This includes, among other things, the completion of the urban development guidelines, a master plan for the ‘Altes Spital’ area, a municipal sports facility concept and a cross-municipal traffic concept,” as the municipality concludes.
