Salzburg: Michelin star for the restaurant “Der Glasgarten”
The will to explore new culinary paths is one of the reasons why Markus Mayr – head chef of the restaurant “The Glass Garden” in the Hotel Schloss Mönchstein in Salzburg – was again awarded a Michelin star in addition to his four toques.
“We are incredibly proud of the renewed award. For my team and I, it’s doubly nice that not only our guests with their positive feedback, but also the Michelin Guide rewards hard work,” says Markus Mayr.
But resting on one’s laurels is out of the question for the trained confectioner and cook. He used the lockdown period to complete an apprenticeship as a baker and collected ideas for the reopening of the hotel and restaurant on April 1st.
Pleasure lovers can then look forward to many new culinary interpretations. A highlight on the new menu will definitely be the Salzburg lamb with young vegetables and meadow herbs. As a perfect dessert, Markus Mayr can recommend the farmer’s yoghurt with rhubarb, raspberry and basil: “It’s not just a sweet temptation, it’s also extremely fresh and light.”
The selection of non-alcoholic drinks on the menu is often very manageable. That’s what head chef Markus Mayr thought too, and let his creativity run wild when it came to cocktails. Whether “Red Angel” or “Litschi Champagner”: In the future, guests can look forward to cocktails based on vegetables, fruit, juices, spices and aromas that are an excellent alternative to classic wine accompaniments.
The restaurant “The Glass Garden” not only offers four toques and one Michelin star award-winning cuisine on the plate. The award-winning delicacies can even be enjoyed directly under the starry sky. This is made possible by an architectural masterpiece in the Hotel Schloss Mönchstein.
The glass dome as the roof of the à la carte restaurant opens up an unbelievable panorama over the old town of Salzburg. Handcrafted furniture, a well thought-out lighting concept and the “Chrysolite Aqua Tower” – an artistically designed glass sculpture in the middle of the room – conjure up an incomparable atmosphere and unforgettable moments of pleasure.
