Salzburg coach Jaissle: “We’re happy that things are starting up again in the league”
For Salzburg, a top game against Rapid is already on the agenda for next Friday before the hit in the Champions League against Bayern.
Jaissle indicates that three points against Rapid should come.
FC Red Bull Salzburg
The favorite role can clearly be attributed to Salzburg. The league leaders have impressive numbers to show, especially if you take a look at the past duel with Rapid Vienna. Coach Matthias Jaissle’s team has been unbeaten in nine Bundesliga games against Vienna (eight wins, one draw) and has scored more than one goal in each of those wins.
The Viennese are something of a “favorite opponent” for Salzburg. In 22 Bundesliga duels there were no fewer than 17 wins, four draws and only one game lost. The only defeat dates from February 24, 2019, when Rapid won 2-0. The superior league leaders have always scored in the last 19 Bundesliga games abroad.
In terms of personnel, the league leader can do anything but draw on full resources. In total they are without eight players, six of them injured – Junuzovic (heel),Bernardo, Koita, Okoh and Seiwald (each knee) and Sesko (muscle). Onguene is back in Salzburg tomorrow after winning third place with Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations. And Seiwald has recently been back in team training after his knee injury.
Jaissle: “A real cracker”
The anticipation is great among the people of Salzburg. Coach Jaissle knows that too: “It was important to get the new year off to a good start by winning the cup. Now we are happy that the league is starting again and with a real bang. We know the importance of this party – especially for our fans – and we will do everything to make sure that they are happy after the game.”
But at the same time he warns of the upcoming opponent: “Even if Rapid is now eliminated in the cup: The team improved significantly in the autumn and lost only one of the last nine games in the league. So we have been warned and we know that we need a top performance again.”
Midfielder Capaldo also takes the opponent very seriously and points out the upcoming tasks: “With the games against LASK, Rapid, Bayern and WAC we have to play against a lot of difficult opponents. A win at Rapid would not only help us in the table but also give us confidence for the Champions League game against Bayern.”
