The spy radio that lived in Portugal for almost half a century
At the origin of this book, it is a master’s thesis by Vítor Madaíl Herdeiro, a researcher of contemporary history, who decided to investigate a secret in plain sight, for more than 40 years, in the Ribatejo heath.
Raret, was the Portuguese company created to host the retransmission center for anti-Soviet American propaganda, known as Radio Free Europe.
Created by the CIA, and state administration offices on the political propaganda side, these restrictions on the side were meant to show the lived, on the other side of Berlin, that freedom was in the West.

But it also fed the mouths of Ribatejo, forgotten by the power of Lisbon. And it may be that key to understanding, the crossing of two regimes, and a revolution.
Vítor Madaíl Herdeiro, says in TSF that “the 25th of April passed by Raret’s door and continues its journey”. The researcher is now deepening his knowledge about Raret, for a doctoral thesis.
