Surface metro between Lucca and Pisa, first yes
The surface subway to connect Lucca to Pisa? The proposal launched by the mayor of Lucca, Alessandro Tambellini, already collects the first favorable opinions. In particular that of the municipality of San Giuliano Terme.
“The Pnrr funds are a great opportunity for the enhancement of regional railway infrastructures, not only for the Pisa-Florence section but also for the Pisa-Lucca line – intervenes the councilor for area, planning and urban planning policies Matteo Cecchelli -. We have only one track between San Giuliano Terme and Ripafratta and in this way it is not possible to guarantee a quality service for residents, workers and tourists. For this reason, also in line with the mandate program, the metropolitan development of this surface area is proposed by redeveloping and upgrading the existing stations. (San Giuliano Terme, Rigoli and Ripafratta) with further stops on the route at Le Maggiola, Gello, Orzignano and Molina di Quosa ”.
“The development of infrastructures in the area is a concrete topic that will need to be addressed – concludes the mayor Sergio Di Maio -. San Giuliano Terme is in a strategic position between Pisa and Lucca. The proposal made by the mayor of Lucca Alessandro Tambellini sees me in agreement: the existing railway line needs to be strengthened to unite territories and people. The unitary vision recalled in the press is the main way to guarantee quality services and have a real (and positive) impact on people’s lives ”.
