STF calls for night train connections between Bolzano and Innsbruck – Südtirol News
Bolzano – “Connect Tyrol better!” Under this motto, the Junge Süd-Tiroler Freiheit, together with the movement’s state parliamentarians, Sven Knoll and Myriam Atz-Tammerle, have drawn up a motion that will be voted on in the state parliament this week. The application provides for the implementation of night train connections between Bolzano and Innsbruck. The members of the state parliament and the youth group are hoping for broad approval.
“Attractive and well-functioning train connections are not only a good way to get from A to B stress-free, they also help protect the climate if many people can do without a car as a result. Therefore, efforts should be made to enable well-functioning train connections, especially within the European region of Tyrol,” writes Junge Süd-Tiroler Freiheit.
“The fact that this is a corresponding claim of young people was also confirmed in the most recent EGTC meeting, in which young people from all parts of the state were asked what they wished for the European region of Tyrol. The young people expressed the desire for fast, seamless and direct transport connections. However, the problem of the lack of nightly train connections between Bolzano and Innsbruck does not only affect young people, students, cross-border family constellations or relationships, but also people who, for example, attend evening events in Innsbruck. After such an event, they no longer have the opportunity to get to South Tyrol by public transport and are therefore forced to switch to the car.
“There are several options for night-time train connections between Innsbruck and Bozen: by adding more connecting trains, by expanding existing train connections or by integrating other railway companies (e.g. ÖBB). In any case, the South Tyrolean Freedom proposes train connections without changing trains,” according to the movement.
