The Rauris Literature Prize goes to the German author Anna Albinus for her novella “Revolver Christi”. Alexandra Koch received the sponsorship award 2022 for the text “vattern muttern kuntel”. This was announced by State Councilor Heinrich Schellhorn (Greens) on Tuesday.
The jury judged “Revolver Christi” to be a “terrific first work”. The text casts a spell on enigmatic art. “The author manages to keep the suspense up to the last page and at the same time the mystery of her allusions, motifs and biblical passages rich in history,” says the explanatory statement. Albinus, born in Mainz in 1986, alongside theology, Judaism and art history, now lives in Greifswald (Germany) after ten years in Vienna. She also received the debut prize at the Austrian Book Prize 2021 for her first publication.
Intendants for Literature Days 2022 confident
The jury steered the idiosyncratic language and form as well as the humor to the text “vattern muttern kud”. “The successful design of the content in its specific language form also makes the text read aloud an impressive listening experience,” wrote the jury about the work of the award winner Koch. Both authors will be heard at the 51st edition of the Rauris Literature Days.
“We are confident that we will all see each other in Rauris this year,” said the directors Ines Schütz and Manfred Mittermayer. Nevertheless, online broadcasts of the events are also planned. In the previous year there were around 6,000 accesses to the streamed readings, said Mittermayer. This geographical expansion of the audience – there were also hits from the USA and France – not to be lost, he founded the hybrid version of the festival.
This year’s festival theme: “Of animals and people”
The 51st Literature Days will begin today, March 30th, under the title “Of Animals and Men”. Among others, John von Düffel, Michael Köhlmeier, Teresa Präauer, Barbara Frischmuth, Olga Flor, Leander Fischer and Alois Hotschnig are expected at the four festival days in Rauris.
From the anniversary program of the previous year, a reading with Gerti Drassl and Sami Loris from texts by former Rauris Prize winners will be made up – in cooperation with the Salzburg Festival.
