East Naples, closed parks and greenery to be recovered
The the municipality of Naples announced a change of pace in the management of urban green. The number of gardeners and agronomists reduced to the bone and inadequate means have had, in recent years, heavy repercussions on the maintenance and care of flower beds, parks, gardens and, consequently, on the hygiene and decorum of numerous areas. Difficult situations in the neighborhoods of the eastern part of the city where some parks remain closed and many areas are reduced in poor condition.
The park in via Mastellone a Barra has never been inaugurated and has been denied for several decades. The structure, close to the popular buildings, is in poor condition due to the weeds accumulated for some time and for trees without any maintenance. The twenty thousand square meters of greenery – which run for a few tens of meters close to the Vesuviana tracks – are reduced to a sort of forest that invades the public housing barracks located a stone’s throw from the health centers.
It is no better for Teodosia, or the “green lung” in the Pazzigno area, in San Giovanni a Teduccio. In the park, closed for years, spontaneous greenery covers the multipurpose field, the rides and other artifacts. On several occasions the municipal structure has been used by some nomadic citizens to find a sort of dwelling in the premises once used by municipal employees.
The former municipal park in the Vigliena area is also denied, that is the green area of Via Innominata transformed into a multipurpose sports area after the construction of the railway underpass. Since then, despite the appeals of the residents, the space has remained closed to the public and unusable.
The three “invisible” parks – under the responsibility of the municipality of East Naples – are joined by flower beds, courtyards and other untreated green spaces. These also include those close to schools, libraries, senior centers and other municipal buildings. In fact, neglect also concerns green areas taken up by commercial businesses and other realities: despite the presence of advertising signs, many remain full of weeds and waste.
According to the statements of the municipal councilor Vincenzo Santagada, one of the two hubs for the maintenance of the horizontal green planned in Naples will be set up in the eastern area. The work to be carried out to restore decor and hygiene is massive given the important extension of the territory and the current conditions of the spaces.
