The Archbishop of Salzburg and Chairman of the Austrian Bishops’ Conference, Franz Lackner, tested positive for the corona virus on Monday. The Archdiocese of Salzburg announced this on Monday afternoon. After a routine quick test, a PCR test confirmed the result. “The archbishop has placed himself in home quarantine and has shifted his work to the home office. All meetings and appointments for the current week have been postponed or switched to video conferences,” said the archdiocese. A meeting with Environment Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) agreed for this week was also canceled.
Lackner has been vaccinated three times. He is doing well, he feels healthy and is “confident that he will soon be able to attend face-to-face appointments again”. All contacts have been urged to get tested and closely monitor their health, so die Archdiocese.
