2022 Winter Olympics: Italy beat Sweden to reach the final in mixed doubles in curling
The strange story of Italian mixed double curling team on 2022 Winter Olympics continues as Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner dirigeras Sweden 8-1 in the semifinals.
The Italians have never earned a curling medal before and are guaranteed at least silver and are strong favorites to win the gold when they face Norway in the gold medal game.
Constantini and Mosaner have beaten their opponents 85-49 in their ten matches in Beijing and steal
The story of the game
After a perfectly placed draw by Mosaner at the first end, Almida De Val missed a selection attempt and Constantini chose to burn his last stone in the knowledge that the score was safe.
The second end was more of the same, another phenomenal draw by Constantini and a few nice sweeps from Mosaner forced De Val to another pressure shot, which she failed with.
End number three saw the Swedes still fighting, Oskar Eriksson hit the guard with one of his shots and De Val missed for a third finish in a row which made it 4-0 to Italy.
By choosing to use its powerplay, Sweden hoped to get back into the match and even though Mosaner hit the guard, Italy still stole a point because De Val’s selection was not close.
More mistakes by Sweden, Eriksson hit the guard, led to another steal of one and a 6-0 advantage to Constantini and Mosaner. Sweden got one back to reduce the lead to 6-1 into the seventh.
Continued strong play from Italy left Constantini with an open draw for two and a win and with how she played it was a pure formality as this magical ride continues into tomorrow’s final.
