Sweden, Egypt discusses cooperation at the exhibition 2020
Sweden and Egypt discussed possible collaborations to promote Egypt’s role as a regional gateway to Africa alongside Expo 2020 in Dubai.
The Swedish and Egyptian pavilions at Expo 2020 hosts a hybrid conference where the participants participated personally and practically to highlight the areas of cooperation between the two countries in energy, communication, transport and health care.
The meeting aims to create more business opportunities for Swedish companies in Egypt and build on Egypt’s role as a major regional hub and gateway to the African continent.
The event included speeches by the Swedish Deputy Minister of Trade Christer Nilsson, Yahya Al-WathikBellah, the head of the Egyptian trade service, Håkan Emsgård, Sweden’s ambassador to Egypt, and the Egyptian sheriff Badawi Ambassador to the UAE. Speakers were also representatives of Swedish companies such as Ericsson, Hitachi ABB Power Grids and AstraZeneca.
The conference was organized in collaboration with the Swedish Trade and Invest Council (Business Sweden), the Egyptian Commercial Service, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, and the Egyptian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
The Swedish and Egyptian trading exchanges increased by 22% during the second half of the financial year 2020, making Egypt the second leading Swedish trading partner, both in the Middle East and Africa. Swedish companies have invested significant amounts in Egypt in recent years. Today, more than 30 Swedish companies are active in Egypt, which creates more than 15,000 jobs that contribute to exports and economic growth in the Egyptian economy.
