Revue Marseille n°271: “The child in the city, yesterday as today”
“A child-sized city”
Labeled by UNICEF in 2021, child friendly cityMarseille are multiplying initiatives in favor of the well-being of the youngest of its fellow citizens. To secure the way to school, develop a greener city, equipped with adapted sports facilities, develop arts education and proposing access to culture for all, initiated to democracy and citizenship through the councils of children and young people… are all levers to improve the place of children in the city.
Without forgetting the school which constitutes the priority site of the current mandate, with the launch of the renovation plan for Marseille schools. A program of1.2 billion euros largely state-backed investment plan, which plans to extensively renovate or build 174 schools in the last eight years!
Among the many testimonies and portraits of those who have given their lives to the cause of childhood, let us point out the exclusive interview granted by the eminent neuro-psychiatrist Boris Cyrulnik who gives us his point of view on the impact of urbanization on the psychological development of the child, also of the health crisis that we are going through and of the digital society in which we live.
The school, but also the other times of learning to live in a community, from patronage to popular education, passing through establishments for children with disabilities, the school for foams or even the sad condition of street children… how far we have come since the “children abandoned at the Hôtel-Dieu” at the end of the 16th century!
Parents, grandparents, teachers, educators… this new issue of Marseille magazine is especially dedicated to you.
EDITORIAL
“The cultural review Marseille is celebrating its 85th anniversary… We are pleased to remember it! Its first issue was indeed published in October 1936. The previous year, the archivist Emile Isnard had transmitted to the mayor Henri Tasso the project of a publication intended to present the city, project adopted during the municipal councils of March 2 and July 10, 1936. Since then, thousands of articles published in several series totaling 297 issues, crossing writings and opinions, have delivered historical reminders, enlightening investigations , demonstrative analyses, rare or artistic illustrations, contributing to making Marseille a benchmark magazine, which has been able to adapt to remain young… An exceptional adventure of passionate men and women which continues in this first quarter of the 21st century. century. As it is affectionately whispered in Provençal: Longo maï… May it last a long time!
The theme of Childhood in the city came to light, especially since Marseille had just obtained the enviable certification of child-friendly city issued by UNICEF! Once again, for this issue, multidisciplinary researchers, licensed professionals and authoritative specialists like the eminent neuro-psychiatrist Boris Cyrulnik, accompanied by loyal contributors to the journal, have awarded us the fruit of their reflections or a synthesis of their work relating to various aspects of early and early childhood, whether they were formed on the benches of schools and institutions… or abandoned in the streets, those of the past and today .
Everything could not be treated, reported in a hundred pages. Thus the pedagogy and the content of the lessons. In these fields, as in many others, Marseilles has been the bearer of initiatives: those of the certificate of studies in 1878, of the canteens or of the Comité du Sou which are transformed into Friends of Secular Instruction, for example. The heritage value of the school buildings, their furniture and decorations has only been touched upon. Also, we are already thinking of a future issue presented to schools, especially since next school year an exhibition organized at the History Museum will contribute to it.
As usual in the magazine, the sections La Culture à Marseille and A Lire shed light on recent news and upcoming events proving, if necessary, how much the agglomeration is dynamic, rich in experiences and creations that deserve to be highlighted. , because they help to alleviate the ambient gloom caused by a sinister pandemic. Also, Dear Readers, without further ado, on behalf of our editorial team and the management committee, we wish you a Happy New Year 2022, full of discoveries and personal insights.
Longo May! “
