Opening of the new children’s aid house in Salzburg
Salzburg – After 15 months of construction, the time has finally come: The new building of the Ronald McDonald Children’s Aid House in Salzburg opens its doors. On this occasion, the blessing of the house by Father Franz Lauterbacher OSB took place in a small group and the subsequent official opening by Governor Dr. Wilfried Haslauer and Mayor Dipl.-Ing. Harald Preuner. As early as Monday, February 14th, the first families with their seriously ill children will move into the new building and find a temporary home during the stressful hospital treatment. Instead of the previous four rooms, the new building, which is located on the grounds of the Salzburg Campus LKH University Hospital, right next to the children’s center, now offers 16 apartments for families.
The modern new building is a place of peace and security. Because in order to get well, seriously ill children need one thing above all: being close to their family. In order to make the heart’s desire of the little patients come true, Ronald McDonald Children’s Aid offers affected families a “temporary home” in the immediate vicinity of the clinics for the duration of their children’s treatment. The new building in Salzburg will offer such a place from now on. There are 16 apartments available on five floors.
100 percent financing from donations
The property was made available to children’s aid by the state of Salzburg. Governor Dr. Wilfried Haslauer is pleased about the opening and emphasizes: “It is a common goal for us in the state to be able to give non-profit organizations a space for their commitment and thus also to be able to support the families in Salzburg who have been hit by fate in their difficult times”. The new building and the ongoing operation that follows are managed 100 percent from donations. “We are very happy about the strong interest of the people of Salzburg in this project and above all about the great willingness to donate, which we have been able to experience so far”, So Karin Schmidt, director of the children’s aid. For the ongoing operation of the house, one is still dependent on the support of donors and helpers and is therefore grateful for every donation, especially in times when classic fundraising measures are also limited.

The building itself, designed by architect Tom Lechner, is characterized by its bright common areas such as the spacious dining area, the inviting lounge area or the cozy playroom. They serve as places to meet other families and provide security. Of course, the house also offers numerous retreats where families can find peace and relaxation. The spacious apartments, which are exclusively available to families, always offer several sleeping options and a private bathroom. “It’s finally here. It is with great pleasure that we will be able to move into this beautiful new house with the first families next week”, explains house manager Andrea Hoefer.
