PriceRunner, the Swedish price comparison site, said Monday that they sued Google for SEK 22 billion ($ 2.4 billion), claiming that
Alphabet
-owned American giant had violated antitrust laws and manipulated search results.
PriceRunner said its move comes on the back of a ruling by the European Court of Justice in November which found that Google favored its own comparison services for shopping in its search engine and set a € 2.8 billion fine from the European Commission to the internet giant. Google has appealed the court’s decision.
Read: Google has just lost a major EU antitrust appeal. That is greater than the $ 2.8 billion fine.
The lawsuit aims to get Google to compensate PriceRunner for profits they say they have lost in the UK since 2008, as well as in Sweden and Denmark since 2013.
“Both European consumers and digital companies are suffering greater direct damage from the dominance of these technology giants than many would think,” said PriceRunner’s CEO Mikael Lindahl.
PriceRunner was bought at the end of last year by the Swedish payment company Klarna for SEK 1.06 billion.
