End of dry weather? Rain could consider Portugal in a few days
The first week of February was uneventful in terms of the weather situation, despite of the blocking anticyclone has yielded enough to activate an open path for small changes which resulted in the occurrence of drizzles in some areas of the country. However, if as they are fulfilled, within days talking about a panorama of rain and loadsalthough, probably, it is insufficient to alleviate the drought that devastates the country and several of the basins.
The week starts without major changes
Today, the anticyclone is raging in the Iberian Peninsula, prevailing a stable weather throughout the country.. Some clouds are high and scattered throughout the territory, but, in general, it is clear skies. It is also worth noting the significant rise in daytime temperatures, with several district capitals registering today 20ºC or more – examples are the cities of Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Setúbal, Ourique and Faro. The wind will blow with some intensity from the east.
Tomorrow seeking the anticyclonic domain will be reflected in sunny weather all over the countryalthough with some exceptions, the case of the region of Trá-os-Montes that will register cloudy periods and some mists/morning fogs.
Night temperatures will increase, but even so, we will have minimums below 5ºC in much of the northern interior and a value of -1ºC in the city of Guarda, not discarding there, ice formation and weak frosts. On the contrary, as they will beat them in Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Setúbal and Cuba. Wind blowing moderate to strong from the east.
In the first half of the week, anticyclonic weather will continue to prevail with good periods of sunshine, daytime temperatures exceed 20 ºC in many locations and little cloud cover.
On Wednesday the panorama will be very similar to the day before: dry, stable and sunnywith significant thermal fluctuations, especially inland, where temperatures are expected to rise.
The arrival of rain and cold in Portugal
On Thursday we will notice some changesas the anticyclone moves eastward towards the center. The clouds will thicken in the west of mainland Portugal, and from the end of the afternoon, the rain will start to fall in the Alto Minho regionsometimes with moderate resistance.
The expansion will expand, ending up with other extensions, such as Baixo Minho, Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Nordeste Transmontano, Douro Litoral and part of Beira Litoral. In the rest of the country, the sky will be quite cloudy, but don’t be warned, however, that it will rain. Maximum temperatures will decrease, especially in the North. The wind will tend to blow from the South/Southwest, especially in the northern half of mainland Portugal.
With a high degree of uncertainty, taking into account our trust model, that of the ECMWF, over the weekend a trough will cross the Iberian Peninsulawith an execution of some showers scattered across the country, as well as the possibility of snow in the northern interior of Trás-os-Montes – possibly on Sunday afternoon. If this scenario is fulfilled, it would be the most meteorological episode of the year so far.
Thus, measures are not reduced for the abundant country, which lacks so much for the very serious drought. In fact, there are still some maps that do not exclude the possibility of this trough becoming a isolated depression at altitude (or cold drop).
Will it be “short-lived sunshine” or will there be a shift in dynamic change?
On Sunday afternoon, another front against Noroeste Minhoto could arrive, however, in the long term this situation cannot materialize as ECMWF forecast maps point out that, in principle, highs will be avoided in the vicinity of the Iberian Peninsula, the certainty of arriving here. Thus, the anticyclonic time domain must prevail.
