Eintracht builds on the future
Eintracht Frankfurt is positioning itself for the future. The SBU has repeatedly lost top players from a larger club in recent years and is in good shape despite everything. Now sports director Markus Krösche should ensure that it stays that way in Frankfurt.
The next top performer could soon leave the club. But while there have often been offensive departures in recent years, this time it’s about a defender with Evan Ndicka. The 22-year-old is the focus of several Premier League clubs, with a fee in the region of 20 million euros.
Eintracht has now signed a successor, Croatian Hrvoje Smolcic will move to Main in the summer. The 21-year-old could become the next youngster in Eintracht’s defense, likely to replace his predecessor Ndicka on an equal footing.
Jérome Onguéné is now brought into play as a further candidate. According to information from image Eintracht has been in negotiations with the 24-year-old, who currently still plays for RB Salzburg, for some time. The advantage: the Cameroonian’s contract expires in the summer, so not one cent of the possibilities for Ndicka’s transfer would have to be reinvested.
Frankfurt has been focusing on the still Salzburger for a while. Some time ago, VfL Wolfsburg also expressed interest, but the wolves seem to be on the right track. Eintracht seems to be ahead in the race for Onguéné.
This could close another post in defense. Then not only the departure of Ndicka is possible, but also the fact that veteran Makoto Hasebe, who is already 38 years old, will probably not tie his football boots forever.
