The 5 finalists of “The Voice Portugal”. Two Fado singers, a philosopher, a Lady Gaga fan and the man who reinvented Agatha
The final of the current of the talent contest “The Voice Portugal” takes place this Sunday, from 9 pm, on RTP1, having been postponed for two weeks because some competitors contracted covid-19 and because, last Sunday, there were Legislative Elections. We now introduce you to the five candidates for victory.
From Diogo Piçarra’s team, Daniel Fernandes and Edmundo Inácio were qualified for the final, from Aurea’s team Mariana Rocha was chosen, by Marisa Liz’s team João Leote competed and with the support of António Zambujo Rodrigo Lourenço will be in the final.
Daniel Fernandes studies philosophy and attributes his love for music to his great-grandparents, with whom he was raised. He studies philosophy, took lyrical singing lessons, sings in a church choir and points out Amália Rodrigues and Simone de Oliveira as his idols. On the stage of “The Voice Portugal” he sang, among others, themes by Andrea Bocelli and Frank Sinatra.
Edmundo Inácio and equipment alone to play various instruments – including piano, bass and electric guitar. The version of ‘Comunhão de Bens’, by Ágata, which he performed on the stage of “The Voice Portugal” – went viral, but he also interpreted, with his personal touch, themes by Tony Carreira, Amália Rodrigues or Fernando Tordo.
João Leote become a fado singer by profession after studying at a fado school in Portimão, where he lives. He participated in the Grand Prix of Fado, passed the stage of the Santa Casa Alfama festival and recorded an album in 2020. In “The Voice Portugal” he sang songs celebrated by Carlos do Carmo and Amália Rodrigues.
Mariana Rocha Had a knack for singing after winning a talent contest at school. She went through the conservatory, plays the piano and guitar and has Lady Gaga as one of her great references. As her versions of REM themes, Adele or Billie Eilish took her to the end of “The Voice Portugal”.
Rodrigo Lourenço, 17, is the youngest of the five competitors. He learned to play the guitar at age 6, studied singing at the Castelo Branco Conservatory and fell in love with fado. He qualified for the final of “The Voice Portugal” after interpreting themes by Amália Rodrigues, Queen or Adelaide Ferreira.
