Naples: two major purchases at (almost) zero cost. The Maignan “case”
Money, in football as in life, however important, is not all. And in Naples and Milan they know it well.
When Carlo Ancelotti arrived at Napoli, the euphoria in the city was palpable. If Reggiolo’s coach made it clear he was aiming for the Scudetto, the club, at least initially, seemed to want to please him. Hirving Lozano, a footballer who cost over forty million euros, arrived at the Azzurri home. Same story with Gennaro Gattuso. The Scudetto goal seemed achievable. And here the Campania club closed the Osimhen deal, the highest paid footballer in Italian history.
The last two seasons of Napoli, however, have been decidedly disappointing. The Neapolitans are back from a seventh and a fifth place despite the initial proclamations. This season the transfer market of the blue club has been in a subdued tone, at least on paper. I arrived John Jesus And Anguissa an (almost) zero cost. They were underestimated, there was talk of downsizing. Instead, the facts have shown something else. The defender and the midfielder are doing great.
Sometimes ideas make a difference. Think of Milan. With Donnarumma’s farewell, the Rossoneri seemed destined to downsize. And instead Maignan he is not making the Italian champion regret in any way.
