Jean-Luc Arribart : “J’aurais préféré 1000 fois aller à Bordeaux, je l’avais d’ailleurs dit à Didier Couecou…”
Jean-Luc Arribart, consultant for Canal, and former Stade de Reims player, a name he could have signed for the Girondins de Bordeaux during his career as a professional player. It was just before joining Stade Lavallois.
” Yes, it’s true. My original club is Stade Rennais, I started when I was 10 years old. I played there as a pro for 4 years. Didier Couecou called me all the time last year. Rennes had financial difficulties, so they decided to sell us, we were three players concerned. Two players, including me, were transferred to Laval. I would have preferred 1000 times to go to Bordeaux, I had also told Didier Couecou. But at that time, it was not the players who involved what they wanted, it was rather the presidents who organized the transfers, and who involved them, what they wanted. They placed the players where they wanted. It was another world, another era, and I couldn’t go to Bordeaux because of that. I spent three years in Laval, even if it wasn’t a prison either. I have another story. When I signed for Nancy after Reims, we had won our first match at the Parc 4-3, and on the second day we welcomed Bordeaux to Nancy. The Bordeaux of Alain Giresse and the whole gang… We welcomed Bordeaux as leaders, and we weren’t leaders for long since we lost 1-0 (laughs)”.
