Street First Concert on the Planet Mars
Malta based pianist Dr. Leonardo Barilaro has launched a music company that sees her release a song every day for a whole year, hoping to be the first man to broadcast a piano concert directly from the planet Mars.
Music company: Space Piano Music EverydayIt is currently being broadcast on Spotify, among other platforms, and is made up of the artist’s own brand of atmospheric piano and minimal electronic compositions.

“As an aerospace engineer and pianist (ergo: ‘space pianist’), I think you can say that I am living my dreams in a synergistic way,” said Barilaro.
He is currently leading an aerospace project at MCAST in Malta, in collaboration with the University of Padua and the Center for Space Studies and Activities (CISAS) “G. Colombo ”(Italy) to develop the first hypervelocity impact facility in Malta.
Project run by the Internilisastion Partnership and Awards Scheme Plus (IPAS +) 2021, funded by MCAST itself.
His relationship with both music and space has shed light on an opportunity that, says Barilaro, is “on another level of complexity.”
“My biggest ambition is to be the first astronaut on Mars. Once there, I hope to broadcast a piano concert. It doesn’t matter if you’re twenty-five, twenty-five. That’s what I want to do. “
“As far as art goes, there are no shortcuts,” he added. “This grinding brings me closer to my ultimate goal.”
The inspiration for this adventure originated from his mantra, Nullo Die Sine Note (Not a day without a note).
The Malta-based artist is leading the way in contemporary space music, taking his unique blend of piano and synth to levels yet to be seen in this contemporary musical genre.
His music reflects the magnitude of the space as well as the unknown range beyond the stars. Sound reasoning behind the limitless possibilities of creativity behind every single piece.
Barilaro appeared on Lovin Malta during the summer of 2018, where he filmed a piano recital in Fomm ir-Riħ.
The video featured Bulgarian dancers Viktoria Petkova and Teodor Yankov as part of his upcoming album SeaSharp (a collection of songs that seem to convey the spirit of the sea through their sounds).
The same artists continue to collaborate with the Space Pianist in his exhilarating adventure to reach his ultimate goal.
