ZHANGJIAKOU, China (Reuters) – Shortly after winning Olympic gold in the freestyle moguls last Saturday, Sweden’s Walter Wallberg received a congratulatory call from his Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson.
Wallberg, who defeated Canadian defender Mikael Kingsbury in a surprise victory, thanked the Prime Minister for easing restrictions on the corona virus in the country.
“She told me ‘well done’ and she was impressed with my skiing,” Wallberg told reporters, explaining how the prime minister also asked the 21-year-old how he planned to celebrate.
“(With restrictions lifted) It’s probably going to be a special one so I thanked her for that,” he said.
Andersson said at a press conference this week that it was time to open https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/sweden-lift-pandemic-restrictions-next-week-2022-02-03 the country again, despite the high number covid-19 cases because it focuses on booster shots and high frequencies of previous infections to keep hospital stays manageable.
Wallberg, who was struggling with serious knee injuries, was asked if he would get a call from the King of Sweden next.
“I think it’s the last one,” he laughed.
