Institute of Higher Studies of the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon
The Lisbon Academy of Sciences founded, by the hand of Moses Amzalak, its Instituto da Altos Estudos (IAE), believing that through it and, like other similar ones worldwide, it assumed a civic duty by intervening in such a challenging area as in an area of knowledge and its evolution, as well as the demands of generational articulation.
This way, through meetings of international and prestigious experts in all areas of knowledge.
Thus, the IAE connects with an information society and technological knowledge that constitutes the participants of scientific advances and the evolution of life, providing learning throughout the intergenerational understanding.
This letter has as its fundamental objective the development of citizen science and the creation of a greater institute of awareness of the value of sciences, letters and the arts for the construction of an informed and interventionist society, reinforcing the recognition of the role of science, technology and innovation for informed decision-making in the context of changes in 21st century society.
We live in a global world, called upon to respond to situations that we are always faced with.
Scientists are well-known for their commitment to science, in an attempt to place advances in knowledge at the service of citizens. However, this effort is not always known in society without misrepresentations or extraordinary or involuntary uses.
Is this science due to problems in science communication? Communicating science is no easy task.
Science and technology today have an impact on all aspects of human life.
This results in an increase in scientific information rigorously that provides knowledge with possible values by individuals, according to the need to make decisions.
There are different paradigms in science communication, namely: (1) the dissemination/dissemination paradigm and (2) the participation paradigm (dialogue between researchers, the public and decision-makers).
It is not in this latter context that the public intervention of the Instituto de Altos Estudos da Academia das Ciências de Lisboa is centralized, and science is based on science between scientists and contemporary science, in an effort accessible in a rigorous way on important issues specifically: the social challenges of 21st century society; consequences and mitigation of global change.
Information transferred by the Instituto de Estudos de Altos Estudios an opportunity and a challenge for knowledge, a discussion and reflection on scientific and technological developments, as well as a sharing of values of solidarity and tolerance, human rights, cultural diversity , pluralism and democratic principles.
