VCA launches cultural program for the first half of 2022
The Valletta Cultural Agency has announced its cultural program for January – June 2022.
The program includes new productions and collaborations, with the involvement of various artists, which mark the essence of Valletta’s cultural, artistic and social fabric.
“The program includes collaborations with the prestigious Italian choir of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Teatru Malta, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cappella Sancta Catherinae Choir, the Public Broadcasting Services, the Malta Film Commission and several individual artists, government entities and the business community, ”reads a statement.
“Valletta’s streets and squares will be transformed into colorful waterfalls, gardens will be revitalized and the Grand Harbor will be celebrated as part of the VCA program. The first half of 2022 includes DRAGO – VCA collaboration and VCA-inspired Malta Theater, a Valletta-born Valletta native born and raised by professional snooker and pool player Tony Drago.April brings production of Mozart’s Requiem – a masterpiece that it will be performed with the participation of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and the choir of 40 people of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, established since the 1500s in Rome. ”
Holy Week will see Seven Visits – a television choral performance by Cappella Sancta Catherinae that will be broadcast on local television stations.
May brings the Valletta Green Festival; a weekend dedicated to environmental concerns in the city, anti-pollution action and the promotion of biodiversity.
The community-curated open-air film screening series, Cinema City, takes place at Laparelli Gardens in June. Finally, the Valletta Pageant of the Seas welcomes the summer while celebrating the Grand Harbor and its role in the lives of Valletta residents. This year’s show will be dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the arrival of the Convoy of St. Mary.
The Stada Stretta Concept program continues with, among others, a literary evening dedicated to the works of Oliver Frigieri.
The Valletta Design Cluster will also be running various programs including the EIT Urban Mobility Hub, the international photo contest Wiki Loves Folklore, Wikimedia CEE Spring, the Valletta Design Cluster Membership Drive, Design Talks and Greenhouse Course.
The Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, José Herrera, who officially launched this program, said that “during these months, we will be seeing various cultural activities with a mix of visual arts, “Every element helps to further strengthen the culture, which is very important and loved by the Maltese and Gozitan people.”
Valletta Cultural Agency Chairman Jason Micallef said that as the world faces many challenges, old and new, it is crucial that now more than ever the need for art take center stage.
Valletta Cultural Agency Chief Executive Catherine Tabone said the Agency is thrilled to once again be hosting events, both large and small, to heal the collective trauma we have all experienced.
The Chief Executive of the SME Chamber Abigail Mamo and the Artistic Director of Teatru Malta Sean Buhagiar were also present and addressed this launch.
