Truck driver drives 42,600 kilometers without a license
timeline
On the Tauernautobahn (A10) near Puch-Urstein (Tennengau), the police caught a truck driver on Thursday afternoon who had traveled 42,600 kilometers across Europe without a valid driver’s license. There were defects on his semitrailer.
The 55-year-old Bosnian truck driver was noticed by the police because he was driving on the motorway at 90 km/h with a far too small safety distance of ten meters to the vehicle in front. During the check, the officials found that the 55-year-old’s driver’s license had already expired on October 19. Since then, however, the man has traveled at least 42,600 kilometers in heavy vehicles across Europe, the police emphasized.
Wrong tires to simulate slower speed
In addition, the man’s semi-trailer had tires of the wrong size fitted. As a result, a speed that is too low is displayed and stored on the truck’s calibrated speedometer and also on the digital tachograph control unit. According to the police, this can have serious consequences during the evaluation – for example after an accident. In addition, the 55-year-old violated the rest times several times.
The police officers therefore prohibited the 55-year-old Bosnian from continuing on Thursday and parked the semitrailer with a lock. The freight forwarder now has to provide a replacement driver and check the control unit of the semi-trailer truck again. In addition, the driver and the registration owner would have to pay a security deposit totaling 3,000 euros.
Desolate car stopped in the city of Salzburg
Every Thursday, police officers pulled a completely desolate car out of traffic in the city of Salzburg. Parts of the underbody are hanging down and part of the exhaust was missing, making the car a lot of noise and smoke. During the check, oil flowed out of the car. The 30-year-old driver was not allowed to continue driving because of the danger in traffic. He had to hand in the registration certificate. The number plates were also removed.
