Switzerland eases Covid restrictions – Daijiworld.com
Berne, 4.2. (IANS): Despite record-breaking Covid-19 cases, Switzerland has lifted the requirements for working from home and quarantine after contact with an infected person.
The government has also proposed further easing other restrictions related to the pandemic later, but the final decision is expected to be made on Feb. 16, the Xinhua News Agency reports.
The Swiss Federal Council said in a statement that the decision had been made because the hospitals in the country were not overburdened and the occupancy of the intensive care units had continued to fall.
“This is probably due to the high level of immunity in the population thanks to vaccination and recovery from Covid-19,” the statement said.
“In addition, Omicron causes fewer severe cases of illness than previous virus variants. There are increasing signs that the acute crisis will soon be over and the endemic phase could begin,” she added.
However, the Swiss Federal Council emphasized that “caution is still required” and that it is important to continue to comply with the hygiene and distance rules, to take the appropriate precautionary measures – and, if possible, to be vaccinated.
Switzerland is currently experiencing another wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the number of new daily infections with the coronavirus due to the Omicron variant reaching an all-time high.
The country has so far reported 2,321,564 cases and 12,881 deaths.
