Slovakia supports Ukraine, Čaputová assured Zelenský. Kiev wants more gas – Domestic – News
Slovakia is ready for Ukraine not only at the political and diplomatic level, but also in the form of practical cooperation in response to the further development of the crisis. The President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová assured the President of the Slovak Republic Volodymyr Zelenský about this in a telephone conversation on Friday.

The Heads of State also spoke about important forms of assistance, especially in the area. “I am well aware that people in Ukraine have a hard time living in the tension and uncertainty of the near future. However, our support is an important signal for them that they are not alone in this turbulent situation, “Čaputová wrote on the social network.
Zelenskyj said in a phone call with Čaput’s agreement that the competent authorities of both countries will negotiate a permanent increase in guaranteed capacities for the transportation of natural gas from Slovakia to Ukraine.
According to Zelenský, the heads of both states paid special attention to energy security issues. “Against the background of security risks associated with the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, close cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia is important to strengthen security of energy supply,” the Ukrainian president said in a statement.
The agency said on Thursday, referring to the operator of the Ukrainian gas transmission system, that Kiev had signed an agreement with a Slovak carrier to increase imports of these raw materials from Slovakia by up to about 55 percent. Ukraine covers imports more than 30 percent of its gas consumption and Slovakia is the main route for supplies from abroad.
Ukraine days ago also started operating natural gas through Hungary. The country thus opened up a new supply route at a time when the war with Russia was threatening, threatening Ukraine’s energy security, Reuters reported.
The President of Ukraine also expressed support for the country these days. According to him, the public expression of support for Ukraine from Slovakia’s partners helps the tension in their society.
The President reiterated that Slovakia, like the rest of the EU and the North Atlantic Alliance, respects the right of each state to freely choose its future and its direction. “This unity of attitudes – us, Ukraine’s western partners – together with the fact that we refuse to negotiate Ukraine without its participation, is vital for our biggest neighbor at this time,” said Caputova.
