BRATISLAVA / Slovakia is a responsible country when it comes to climate change. He stated this after today’s meeting with the Executive Vice President of the European Commission and Climate Commissioner Frans Timmermans, Prime Minister Eduard Heger. As he further said, the Slovak Republic is the first country in the region to commit to climate neutrality by 2050. Achieving environmental goals must also go hand in hand with innovation, according to the Prime Minister.
“In the recovery plan, we have allocated € 600 million just to support innovation.” clarified Heger with the plan being a “road map” to green Slovakia. He also said that Slovakia is part of a green coalition of European states and is aware of the seriousness of global warming.
With Timmermans Heger according to his own words, he also spoke about the Slovak reform of national parks. He also stressed that the Slovak Republic was the first of the Visegrad Four countries (V4) to start backing up plastic bottles and cans. “Another important achievement that we, as Slovakia, can boast of is that in the 30 years of our existence, we have reduced emissions by almost 50 percent compared to 1990,” stated HegerHe added that almost 80 percent of electricity production in Slovakia is decarbonized.
at the same time, he approached that Slovakia plans to reform, for example, construction waste management and also wants changes in the field of logging. “We want to use organic farming, we want to achieve soft tourism,” added the Prime Minister.
According to Timmermans, the quality of Slovakia’s reform plans is very high. “Since much of these measures are aimed at reconstruction, we will continue to do so with the Prime Minister.” stated. He hopes that reforms will be swift. “Because time works against us,” Timmermans concluded.
