The success story of Andreas Ulmer and Red Bull Salzburg will continue at least until summer 2023. As the Mozart townspeople announce, an agreement has been reached with the captain and leading player to extend the expiring contract. The 36-year-old defender will be in his 15th season for the Austrian serial champions of recent years, where he has been one of the top performers in the team since moving from SV Ried in January 2009. Ulmer has played in 16 of 18 Bundesliga games this season, and he has also played in all six group games in the Champions League.
“It’s great that our journey together is continuing. It’s still fun for me to go out on the pitch with this young squad and play successfully there. That we’ve achieved another highlight this season with promotion to the round of 16 in the Champions League is an additional motivation for me”, a visibly satisfied man from Ulm after his contract extension.
Title hamster Ulmer: Eleven championship titles and eight cup wins
Overall, Ulmer has already played 13 years and 516 competitive games in the Ligakroesus jersey and is the absolute leader with 21 collected titles in Austria. “I don’t know how many times I’ve said it and I like to repeat myself now: Andi is an absolute model professional and a great role model for our many young players. His attitude, his achievements, his consistency and his large number of titles and successes with us speak for themselves. We are happy and proud that our record player and captain will remain with us,” says sports director Christoph Freund, happy about the manager’s whereabouts on the pitch.
Born in Linz, he came to Ried through the offspring of Wiener Austria in the summer of 2008, where after a strong half-year he went to Salzburg in spring 2009 and he was the first player in the Bundesliga to play 37 league games in a season with 36 games, because at that time the Mozartstadter still had to catch up on an additional part from the autumn. Overall, Ulmer was crowned Austrian champion with the Salzburg team and won the cup eight times. In addition, the 30-time national player for Austria has played in 18 Champions League games and 62 Europa League games for his long-standing team.
