Renewed game tear by dog: appeal of the hunters
timeline
In Werfenweng (Pongau), a free-roaming dog chased a deer right next to the ski slope on Thursday morning and injured it so badly that it had to be killed. Such incidents are currently increasing, says the hunters. She appeals to dog owners to leash their four-legged friends.
Right next to the ski run in Werfenweng shortly after the start of operations, the wild Thursday morning dog. A hunter and the hunt leader accidentally observe how he chased a deer and drove it into the deep snow-covered bed of the Zaglaubbach.
Only when the dog owner, a vacationer, showed up, was she able to catch the dog again together with the hunters. At this point, the deer was bitten on the rear end, but it was already so badly injured that the hunter had to kill it – much to the regret of the holidaymaker. Your dog may have tracked down the deer at a nearby wildlife feeding station and then chased it.
Hunters: “Leashes can save lives of wild animals”
Almost a week and a half ago there was a similar incident in the Gaißau-Hintersee ski area (Tennengau): An unknown dog tore a deer, ski tourers discovered the carcass.
Dogs should always be kept on a leash when playing winter sports in the open country – state hunting master Max Mayr-Melnhof calls for this: “We currently have a lot of tears from dogs in snowy conditions where the game cannot escape easily. We understand when people take their four-legged friends with them, but leashes – and long leashes – can really save wildlife lives. We bit really badly because there have been some incidents in the last few days.”
Dog owners have to pay damages
Dog owners have to pay damages to the respective hunting tenant after game has been killed. The shooting of wild dogs would also be legally covered – but the hunters rely on the appeals.
