MINSK, Feb 4 – Sputnik. Lithuanian border guards managed to shoot down a drone with smuggled cigarettes that flew into the territory of the Republic of Belarus, the State Border Guard Service of the Baltic country reported.
The drone was discovered on Thursday, February 3, in the Shalchininkai region.
“The captured drone dropped the cargo, changed the direction of the flight and soon landed about two kilometers from the border with Belarus,” the service said.
It was also noted there that two boxes of Belarusian “NZ Gold” cigarettes were attached to the aircraft – two packs in total.
In fact, an administrative case was initiated on violation of the established procedure for the movement of excisable goods.
Not the first time
According to Lithuanian border guards, this is the second time in the estimated year that smugglers have used drones to smuggle cigarettes through transactions.
A similar attempt to deliver illegal cargo by air was thwarted by border areas in the village of Purvenai in the first half of January. Nearly 800 packs of cigarettes were attached to the drone.
