Captain Ulmer has extended his contract with Salzburg until the summer of 2023
His title record is similarly impressive, with Salzburg he has been at the top eleven times in the Bundesliga and triumphed eight times in the cup. Previously, he had also won the double with Vienna Austria 2006. With a total of 21 titles, he is the clear number one in Austria. “It’s an extraordinary story that won’t be repeated that easily,” said Salzburg’s sporting director Christoph Freund.
Ulmer described it as “great” that the joint journey continues. “It’s still fun for me to go out on the pitch with this young squad and play successfully there. The fact that we were able to set another highlight this season with promotion to the round of 16 in the Champions League is additional motivation for me,” said Ulmer.
He still has “a lot” planned in Salzburg. “I’m really fit and I’ll hopefully win a lot more titles,” Ulmer looked to the future. A change of club was “not a consideration”. “I’ve said many times that I like playing in Salzburg and would also like to end my career here.”
Freund was obviously happy about the whereabouts of the 30-time ÖFB team player. “I don’t know how many times I’ve said it and I like to repeat myself now: Andi is an absolute model professional and a great role model for our many young players. His attitude, his performance, his consistency and his large number of titles and successes with us speak for themselves.”
Coach Matthias Jaissle, three years younger than Ulmer, could only agree: “He completely destroys our average age, but like back then in the discussion about me, age doesn’t matter. He is an absolute leader and management player, as the captain he is my extended arm, and he always strives to develop further. He’s having a great season and we’re all very happy.”
