Nestlé is building a chocolate theme park in Switzerland
Calling all chocolate lovers! Mark your calendar: in 2025, Nestlé plans to open not a museum but a theme park entirely dedicated to the cocoa substance.
The Swiss multinational has announced that it is working on a completely new project that will be based in the Gruyère region.
Chocolate capital of the world
Switzerland is determined to cement its international reputation for chocolate. Or rather, nestle is determined to cement its status as a chocolate giant. Projects in this area include the opening of a theme park dedicated to sweet indulgence. The project should be completed by 2025, reports the Swiss newspaper “Le Temps”.
In fact, the plan for this future gourmet destination already has its foundations. Nestlé plans to expand the Maison Cailler site, where chocolate has been made for almost 200 years. It is located in Broc and is the oldest chocolate factory in Switzerland.
Located north of the Gruyère Regional Park, where the famous cheese is made, the factory also houses a chocolate museum. As the third most visited museum in Switzerland, it is already very popular with visitors. With its new chocolate theme park, Nestlé plans to welcome up to a million chocoholics to the site each year.
For everything to do with chocolate
No less than 80 million Swiss francs (equivalent to around 86 million US dollars) have been invested in the chocolate theme park. However, those expecting thrilling rides may be disappointed.
Project manager Olivier Quillet has already established this nestle The chocolate theme park will not have any roller coaster rides. Instead, the site will be developed to take visitors on a journey to better understand the history of cocoa and its production. And Nestlé has no intention of stopping. After opening in 2025, the multinational could add a hotel and spa to its new park by 2030.
But Nestlé isn’t the only Swiss company laying claim to its chocolate heritage. In September 2020, Lindt opened the world’s largest chocolate museum in the German-speaking part of the country. The site in Zurich covers more than 1,500 square meters, right next to the brand’s headquarters.
