la justice demande des moyens
The year 2021 was marked in particular by two feminicides, in Mérignac and in the Saint-Augustin district in Bordeaux, as well as by a sharp increase in intra-family violence within the jurisdiction of the judicial court. Arrests and custody of violent husbands or partners have resulted in systematic referrals to the prosecution.
A societal problem
“The repressive policy is there”, underlines the prosecutor. And the figures attest to this: over the past twelve months, immediate comparison procedures before the criminal court have jumped 78% in terms of domestic violence. “Devices are put in place but for all that, this does not stop either violent husbands or frustrated spouses”, justifies the magistrate.
Domestic violence is a societal problem that justice cannot deal with alone.
Women’s voices have been released and now they dare to announce the violence suffered and go through the doors of a police station or a gendarmerie brigade whose services have been reorganized with referent personnel. Last year, over 3,000 complaints were filed.
“The story of these feminicides marked us all, confides the prosecutor. For the second, we did not detect the dangerousness of this man who had never been convicted of violence, and who had never been called to threaten to kill his ex-partner. No one saw that he was about to take action, when two days before he was with the judge who forbade him to come into contact with her, ”notes Frédérique Porterie, who believes that This is “a societal problem that justice cannot deal with on its own”.
Demographic dynamism
In “a hardening of Bordeaux delinquency”, President Éric Ruelle believes that “the health crisis has increased the state of distress of fellow citizens, who live in a situation of exasperation and bear less and less annoyance”. On the other hand, the photograph of Bordeaux “sleeping beauty” compared to Monaco, has not been the same for several years now. “Little by little, we are getting closer to the typology of other major cities in France,” notes the prosecutor. The 120,000 complaints (+18.3%) recorded and the 105,000 cases processed (+13.6%) in 2021 confirm this.
