Cologne, Schalke and Bielefeld play in front of 10,000 spectators
Dusseldorf. The Bundesliga clubs Arminia Bielefeld and 1. FC Köln as well as the second division club FC Schalke 04 can play their home games in front of 10,000 spectators at the weekend.
All three clubs announced this on Wednesday evening, citing a decision by the federal states and the corresponding adjustment to the Corona Protection Ordinance, which was expected on Wednesday evening. Borussia Dortmund also expects to be able to let 10,000 fans into the stadium again on Sunday against Bayer Leverkusen. At the same time, 1. FC Köln waived the legal examination of the spectator restriction in North Rhine-Westphalia, which FC and other Bundesliga clubs had applied for on Monday.
“We welcome the fact that the political decision-makers in North Rhine-Westphalia reacted quickly to our criticism and were able to follow our arguments for easing in discussions with us,” said FC Managing Director Alexander Wehrle. “We now hope that this limit of 10,000 fans will be the starting point for dynamic development in the coming weeks. Because of this, the urgent application submitted to the OVG Münster has been dealt with for the moment, »explained Wehrle.
