Renata Tebaldi would have turned 100 years old
On 1 February 2022 the great soprano Renata Tebaldi would have turned 100 years old. The Foundation wanted and authorized in life by the great artist is based in the Republic of San Marino, the place where all the initiatives to celebrate this centenary come to life. A rose and a digital event for the San Marino day.
Renata Tebaldi has always been surrounded by only one of priestly dignity: her personality was characterized by great humanity, emotional depth, professionalism, rigor and fairness.
His full, powerful voice had a quality that is found “once every fifty years”, as Riccardo Zandonai said after listening to Tebaldi when he was only eighteen.
The soprano has dedicated his entire life to the music and art of Belcanto.
His name still shines on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the famous street where over 2,000 stars are celebrated. There are only 14 Italians among them and they are on the list for their contribution to art and entertainment. Tebaldi was the Italian voice par excellence, an “angel voice”, as Arturo Toscanini called her, or “Miss sold out”, as she was nicknamed in the United States, the country where she built most of her career and where she experimented the greatest triumphs.
She would have turned 100, born on February 1, 1922.
Today the world remembers her: as a woman and as an artist who has undeniably marked the world of opera, bel canto and opera.
The Renata Tebaldi Foundation celebrates the artist’s 100th anniversary with a 1-year calendar of celebrations created in partnership with major world music institutions.
Today, however, the day is dedicated to the Republic of San Marino, a land that after her retirement, Renata Tebaldi chose as her second home.
The Renata Tebaldi Foundation was established here: it was the artist’s explicit desire that he entrusted his closest friends with the task of perpetuating his memory and organizing an international vocal competition with the aim of helping young singers to undertake an artistic career. He died in 2004 and, unfortunately, could not see the first edition of the “Renata Tebaldi International Singing Competition”, which, since 2005, has been dedicated to young people, faithful to his instructions and respecting his will.
On this 1st February 2022 there are two salient moments of the celebrations: at 11.30 in Via Eugippo, in the heart of the historic center of San Marino, a rose dedicated to the soprano Renata Tebaldi will be planted, in indelible memory not only of the relationship between artist and the state of the Titan but also of the tireless activity of the Foundation that bears his name.
The planting takes place thanks to the San Marino flower designer Verbena, who personally made the gift possible.
At 6 pm the FRT opens from San Marino to the world with a digital event “Happy Birthday, Renata!” an ecumenical embrace that will conclude, live on Facebook, the programming of the video messages and greetings that are coming to the Foundation from the Theebaldian friends around the world from the 5 continents. Live together with the President of the Renata Tebaldi Foundation, Niksa Simetovic, three great artists affectionately linked to Renata and her Foundation, 3 internationally renowned sopranos: Fiorenza Cedolins, Elizabeth Norberg Schulz and Chiara Taigi.
A charismatic and highly intelligent person, an artist who marked her time, generous and ironic, who will be told by the guests of the Renata Tebaldi Foundation to the public and to Renata’s friends.
And it is only the beginning of these celebrations. For now, just say: Happy birthday, Renata!
