Mustafa Hasan (19) will stay in Norway – NRK Oslo and Viken – Local news, TV and radio
– In my head I have planned what I will do when I find out, but now I just have to breathe, says Mustafa Hasan.
He came with his family to Norway in 2008. He has allowed his own family to leave the country and his one year older brother to be allowed to stay in Norway.
He himself has fought to stay.
This summer, Mustafa and his lawyer decided to apply to the Norwegian state. They believed that Mustafa Hasan was entitled to a residence permit in Norway based on humanitarian grounds.
The reason was that they wanted to invalidate the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) decision that Mustafa is not entitled to a residence permit in Norway.
They did that. In court, Mustafa won against UNE.
As a result, he was able to apply to stay in the country again. That’s what Mustafa has done. Now you have answered her:
Mustafa Hasan gets to stay. After several years of struggle, he has been granted a residence permit in the country.
– I cracked on the ground when the lawyer “You have been granted residence”. I was shocked when he said that, Mustafa.
Mustafa Hasan’s lawyer, Nicolai V Skjerdal, can confirm this to NRK.
History of the Hasan family
In 2008, the Hasan family settled in Norway. Mother, to older brothers, Mustafa and Abdelrahman. In 2009, a little sister is born.
The family is granted temporary residence in Norway.
The following year, other brothers of Mustafa come to Norway. They are denied residence and have to leave the country.
In 2012, the immigration authorities believe that the mother has lied. Five years later, the Borgarting Court of Appeal concludes that the family are Jordanian citizens, and not stateless Palestinians, as more have said. Thus, the temporary residence permit is withdrawn.
In 2017, the mother and little sister, who was born in Norway, leave the country.
Mustafa and Abdelrahman remain under the care of the child welfare service.
People have become involved in the case
Mustafa’s case has involved many. He has made an impression on stars such as Martin Ødegaard and Karpe. According to the mayor of Asker, he is a real ashtray.
He believes his case is about something bigger than himself and that that is the reason why people have gotten involved.
– I really do not think that people spent their time, gave money, got involved and paid attention to the case because it is me. I refuse to believe that, says Mustafa.
He thinks people did it because they thought his case was being treated unfairly.
– I think people got a feeling that this is not right. Why should he who speaks as good Norwegian as me, who looks and sounds as Norwegian as me, why should he leave Norway, he says.
– Do you feel Norwegian now Mustafa, are you accepted?
– I feel accepted by the people. A hundred percent. Thanks to the people, I have never felt at home again now.
Now both brothers can stay in Norway
It was a clear verdict that came from Oslo District Court this summer. It is this UNE has had to take as a starting point when they have now considered Mustafa’s right to a residence permit in Norway again.
The judgment from the Oslo District Court states that Hasan’s connection to Norway has not been taken into account.
That they have not thought about his mental health.
Nor the demanding situation that would have faced him in Jordan.
Abdelrahman Hasan, who is Mustafa’s brother, received a residence permit one year ago. Now both can stay in the country together.
– He was one of the first people I spoke to. We agreed to meet. So we will meet soon and eat, says Mustafa.
