Top 5 AC Milan players this season
On Saturday February 5, Inter, reigning Italian champions, face AC Milan, their runner-up last season, who still occupy second position this year. UN Madonnina derby for the Scudetto which takes us back a few years, before the golden era of Juventus, a period in which the two teams from the capital of Lombardy occupied the national and even European summits. In view of this derby, calcium scrutinizes both clubs. Today, presentation of the five best AC Milan players since the start of the 2021-2022 season, according to their forms of the moment and not their intrinsic values.
5th – Sandro Tonali
Bought last season, Sandro Tonali took a season to take the measure of the emblematic club with which he was committed. After contrasting beginnings, the native of Lodi is in the process of establishing himself in the midfield of Milan. While we are only on the 23rd day, Tonali has already played more minutes than last season (1448′ against 1335′) and above all, his performances have gained in regularity. His volume of play, his quality of passing and his combativeness convinced Pioli to install him permanently in front of the defense, in the double pivot alongside Kessié. He also scored his first but in Serie A against Cagliari. At 21, Tonali embodies a possible bright future for Rossoneri.

4th – Fikayo Tomori
Until his meniscus injury, Tomori was a real rock. Capable of combining power with precision, the former Chelsea player has offered steadily improving performances since his arrival in northern Italy. With the exception of two games in which he was shot in the hip, Tomori resumed games for a clean sheet record of six, offering impressive serenity. It is still, despite being on the flank for a month, the third player most used by Pioli in minutes spent on the lawn. His injury will therefore be a blow for the months to come, unless it allows the emergence of another young defender: Kalulu.
3rd – Mike Maignan
If AC Milan agreed to quickly turn the Donnarumma page, it is because very early on, the management of‘Il Diavolo found him a replacement: Maignan. The French champion goalkeeper with Lille, eager to take a step forward, has joined the Rossoneri at the beginning of summer and quickly put everyone in his pocket. Decisive stops and a contagious serenity allowed him to conquer the hearts of the tifosi: this gives in a concrete way seven clean sheet in 17 outings and the second best ratio in the championship in percentage of saves on shots suffered, just behind the goalkeeper of the reviled rival, Samir Handanović (77.6% against 81.1%). Would Gigio already be forgotten?
2nd – Rafael Leao
After showing the beginnings of his talent last year, Leão was expected at the turn. And it must be said that the turn is well negotiated by the Portuguese racing car which has already equaled its total of goals – six – from the previous season, striking in particular against Lazio and Atalanta. While he sometimes has a tendency to dribbles deemed useless, he moves away in this area and is more altruistic. On his left side, he makes significant differences with his speed and he has established himself as an essential element of this team, despite his 22 springs. Involved in ten goals for his team, he is the most decisive player of the Rossoneri.
1st – Theo Hernandez
Already considered one of the best in the league last season, Théo Hernandez confirms game after game his qualities as a modern defender and effective counter-attacker. His recent performances even earned him his first call-up to the France team. Most used player by Pioli in front of Maignan (1646 minutes), captain when Kessié and Romagnoli are absent, the 24-year-old appears as a part of the team. At just 24 years old and in his third season in Italy, he is directly linked to AC Milan’s nine goals, four of which he scored. Absent during the first leg derby following an expulsion, number 19 will be keen to take revenge on Saturday!
Don’t forget, we meet on Monday evening, 9:00 p.m., for our Serata Calcio on the theme: the Milanese Renaissance.
