Cologne confirmed offer for Modeste from Saudi Arabia | free press
Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln has confirmed media speculation about an offer for striker Anthony Modeste from Saudi Arabia.
“We had a very, very lucrative offer to transfer Toni to Saudi Arabia and it was also very immoral for Toni. But it’s normal for a player to take a day or two and think about it,” said Thomas Kessler, sporting director of FC licensed players, on Sky Sport.
Kessler referred to clarifying discussions with the 33-year-old Frenchman: “We spoke very openly about the subject and were then able to convince Toni to say something. Stay with us! This path that you have taken here in the summer with the new coach, after a not so easy time to continue with us. And we’re totally clear with Toni and he’s extremely excited for the second half of the season.”
After a difficult time at Tianjin Quanjian, Modeste returned to 1. FC Köln, which he left for China in the summer of 2017. After a stint on loan at French club AS Saint-Etienne, the attacker has found his form again under the direction of FC coach Steffen Baumgart. With 13 goals, he is currently fourth in the Bundesliga top scorers list. (dpa)
