Tokyo Olympics: Helsinki Ski Weeks offers the opportunity to ski at the Olympic Stadium
“The Olympic Stadium is a national monument and one of our most internationally renowned buildings. At the same time, it is a place where all Finns can participate. Now the Olympic Stadium can be seen and experienced from a new perspective. During a severe pandemic, outdoor activities have become even more important for Helsinki residents, and this again offers a new kind of outdoor exercise experience. I hope that many Helsinki residents will seize this unique opportunity, ”encourages Paavo Arhinmäki, Deputy Mayor of Helsinki for Culture and Leisure. The stadium offers a wide range of skiing-related events in January and February. The goal of the national ski day is to inspire people all over Finland to ski and exercise outdoors. Helsinki Olympic Stadium is the center of the national skiing day. Throughout the Helsinki Ski Weeks month, the stadium hosts many other activities in addition to skiing, such as the opening concert on January 30, the Children’s Snow Days and a ski disco. The highlight of Helsinki Ski Weeks is the international 02 Taxi Stadium Sprint competition on February 24. The Ski Weeks event includes an event market where you can enjoy food and drink in an aftersky atmosphere.
Helsinki Ski Weeks offers the opportunity to ski at the Olympic Stadium “Helsinki Ski Weeks has been developed so that as many Helsinki residents as possible would come to the renovated Olympic Stadium to experience something new: the joy of skiing at the Olympic Stadium, a sanctuary for Finnish sports. Helsinki Ski Weeks is organized as an outdoor event for health safety in accordance with the safety requirements and recommendations in force at the time of the event. The Finnish Ski Association, together with its partners, is responsible for the planning and production of the Helsinki Ski Weeks event. The City of Helsinki is one of the event’s partners. The goal of Helsinki Ski Weeks and its main events, the National Ski Day and Stadion Sprint, is to make these events a recurring tradition that moves people in every sense of the word. Approximately 200,000 participants are expected to attend the month-long event, January 29-27, 2022. Helsinki Ski Weeks focuses on responsibility and health safety Helsinki Ski Weeks is designed and organized with an emphasis on both social and environmental responsibility. Social responsibility and a public health perspective are realized by the fact that the local sports facility, which is offered free of charge to the entire population, enables skiing at an exceptionally low threshold, regardless of age or skill level. The Finnish Ski Association has also announced that Helsinki Ski Weeks is committed to making the event carbon neutral.
