Marseille overcomes Montpellier and goes to the quarters
Undefeated for eight games in all competitions, Olympique de Marseille eliminated ES Cannet-Rocheville (4-1) and Chauvigny (3-0) to get there. While the Marseille club dreams of a first trophy since the Coupe de la Ligue 2012 and a first Coupe de France since 1989, the Olympians beat Montpellier this Saturday evening in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France (1-1, 5-4 on pens).
The first opportunity was to the credit of Cengiz Ünder, who transplanted in the axis and quickly rolled up a shot from the left from 20 meters on which Bertaud relaxed well in the 8th minute. The second big opportunity of the game came in the 36th minute. Dimitri Payet thus obtained a free kick from 20 meters, very slightly shifted to the right, and sent the leather on the Hérault bar. But despite good situations, OM did not materialize at rest. Still 0-0 at the break.

Bertaud postponed the deadline for Montpellier
In the second half, Bertaud continued to disgust OM, as on this corner 20 minutes from the end, which had caused a new strike from Ünder. The same Under shot at the post following a first attempt by Payet which was rejected two minutes later. But it was Milik who was going to open the score following a scramble by the Montpellier defense of the right, a quarter of an hour from the end (74th). However, the MHSC would be called back ten minutes from the end. On a long ball from Mamadou Sakho, Béni Makouana thus lobbed Marseille goalkeeper Pau Lopez with a header for the 1-1 (80th).
At the end of the match, OM still dominated, but Bertaud was firm. And it took a penalty shootout to decide between the two teams. And it was the Marseillais who emerged victorious from this lottery with a clear round (Rongier, Milik, Ünder, Guendouzi and Payet), while Ristic was the only one to miss his. Qualified, OM will see the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France… and will face Lyon on February 1 (9 p.m.). A match which will therefore be without Gerson on one side and Lucas Paqueta on the other, or even Bruno Guimaraes if he is not transferred by then.
