Eight more stations of the GIRA network in operation from Monday in Lisbon | Lisbon
The GIRA Bicycle Shared Network, in Lisbon, will have eight more stations in operation on Monday, the Lisbon Mobility and Parking Company (EMEL) announced this Saturday.
Of the eight stations, three are located in the parish of Santa Maria Maior (Praça do Rossio; Rua dos Fanqueiros/Rua da Assunção; Rua do Comércio) and five in Arroios (Rua António Pedro/Rua Pascoal de Melo; Jardim Constantino; Rua Frei Francisco Foreiro/Rua de Arroios; Av. Almirante Reis/Travessa do Maldonado; Rua Marques da Silva/Rua António Pedro), according to EMEL, in a statement released this Saturday.
The company also states that these eight stations “correspond to an increase of 129 docks at GIRA, scheduled for the opening of three more stations, two in the parish of Olivais (58 docks) and one in Lumiar (33 docks), from the second week onwards. of February”.
EMEL SUCESSO says that these eight stations “come to consolidate the connection of the Parte Bicycle Network in Baixa Pombalina and Arroios, and allow for a better service to the Riverfront, continuing the work that the Municipal Mobility and Parking Company has been developing so that Lisbon have an increasingly sustainable mobility”.
Thus, as of Monday, “Lisbon will have 110 GIRA stations in operation, which represents a total of around 2100 docks for bicycles”. “Currently, more than 1,000 bicycles from the Lisbon Shared Bicycle Network operate in the city”, reads the statement.
The opening of the eight stations, on Monday, marked as an action “which has the councilor for Mobility Planning of the Lisbon City Council, Ângelo Pereira, and the president of EMEL, Luís Natal Marques, with a starting point at the station. GIRA from Praça do Rossio, at 12 pm”.
In the summer, around 5 new stations on the bicycle network shared with GIRA were installed, whose activation must be carried out by the energy supply company.
The municipal company of Lisbon had to open a new public tender to find a new supplier: “The tender is already concluded and we already have a new electricity supplier”, said EMEL earlier this month, in response to questions from the Lusa agency.
At that time, EMEL said that there were “50 new stations installed, namely in Baixa, Campo de Ourique, Belém, São Domingos de Benfica, Benfica, Carnide, Telheiras, in the process of installing electricity, for later completion: communications connection, tests, final”.
Regarding the expansion of the network, the municipal company has two contracts in progress for the installation of 130 new stations and is finalizing the award of a third contract for another 50 stations, making a total of 130 new GIRA stations.
