Man Utd teenager Anthony Elanga is qualified to play for England but Sweden desperately wants to keep the prospect
ANTHONY ELANGA is qualified to play for England but Sweden are convinced that the Red Devils edge will agree with them.
The FA is aware that Elanga, 19, who joined Manchester United’s academy at the age of 12, has lived in the UK long enough to represent the three lions.
Elanga, son of the former Cameroonian defender Joseph Elanga, was born in Sweden, played in Malmö at a very early age and has represented the country’s U21 year olds eight times.
Elanga has not only been in eight games for United this season, he has also started the last three games.
And the 19-year-old scored in the crucial 3-1 away win over Brentford.
About Elanga’s goal, manager Ralf Rangnick said: “He followed up his performance at Villa Park. He was outstanding in the second half, a lot of work against the ball and a goal.”
Swedish senior manager Janne Andersson hoped to join him on a planned 24-man tour in Portugal this week.
But Old Trafford boss Rangnick blocked it last month.

The training camp – which would not include established senior players – had to be scrapped by Sweden due to Covid problems in Portugal.
But the Swedes, who have a World Cup semi-final against the Czech Republic in March, do not think that Elanga is looking to change and play for either England or Cameroon.
The English Football Association is currently not tracking the young star in order to make a move for him.
