Carmen Ciantar ‘Stunt Embarrasses Malta Government’, Says One Chairman Jason Micallef
Carmen Ciantar’s appeals to the Commissioner for Standards to investigate her contract earnings of 163,000 a year as CEO of the Medical Services Foundation is “a stunt embarrassing the whole government,” said the chairman. of One Jason Micallef.
Ciantar, who is one of Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne’s closest allies, is currently under salary shackles, which the National Audit Office has described as irregular. She also earns extra government pay while serving on the board of governors of the Malta Gaming Authority.
Ciantar’s predecessor, Brian St John, had € 80,000, roughly half the amount given to Ciantar.
“Such stories do not suit Robert Abela’s leadership, because frankly, they do not deserve it,” Micallef wrote on social media.
“The salary is a mile above the Prime Minister, which is incredible and makes no sense.”
The PN has since called for the contract to be scrapped with Ciantar asking the Standards Commissioner to investigate.
“I categorically deny these false and baseless allegations and to that end I have written to the Commissioner of Standards myself and asked him to investigate these allegations. As I fully assisted the Auditor General’s office during the FMS audit, I am ready to cooperate fully with the Commissioner for Standards to bring the truth to light, ”she said.
