MP Kimmo Kiljunen demands an impartial international inquiry into the situation in Kazakhstan
“I would like to express I am deeply concerned about the situation in Kazakhstan, a country close to me, a country that has been declared a beacon of stability and the most prosperous country in the region. I deeply regret the tragic loss of life in recent weeks and urge all parties to refrain from any violence or provocation. It is absolutely essential that social peace and trust be restored, “says Mr Kimmo Kiljunen.
“At the same time, Kazakhstan’s independence and sovereignty must be nurtured and respect for freedom of expression, including guarantees of freedom of the media and fair consultation of citizens. As a means of overcoming the current crisis, “The end result of this process could, in its own way, heal the wounds and pave the way forward,” says Kiljunen.
