75% of teachers on strike in Paris on Thursday, 80% in Seine-Saint-Denis
The national mobilization against the health protocol in schools promises to be particularly followed in Île-de-France, according to the requests of Snuipp (FSU.
Exceptional strike day Thursday. At the call of the unions, many teachers will go on strike to protest against the Covid-19 protocol implemented in schools. At the national level, the Snuipp-FSU, the first primary union, foresees 75% of striking teachers.
236 lessons closed in Chelles
In Île-de-France, this movement also promises to be very popular. According to the departments, the number of striking teachers in the primary Thursday oscillates between 60% and 80%, according to figures from Snuipp. Many schools will also be closed.
In Paris, 75% of teachers must therefore go on strike, and 250 schools out of 650 will be closed. In Seine-Saint-Denis, the expected strike rate rises to 80%, with one in two schools closed.
Another illustration of this extraordinary mobilization to be expected: in Chelles, in Seine-et-Marne -department where the Snuipp anticipates 75% of strikers- 236 classes out of the 280 in the town must be closed.
In addition, in the Hauts-de-Seine, it will take between 75% and 80% of strikers, while in the Val de Marne, more than one in three schools should be closed, with 65% to 70% of striking teachers.
Relaxation of the protocol
Monday evening, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced an assembly of the health protocol in the face of the Covid epidemic in schools and the risk of mayhem. Three simple self-tests for contact cases at school, without obligation of antigen test or PCR, are now required.
“Not only does the current protocol not protect students, staff and their families, it also completely disrupts the school. Thus, contrary to repeated government claims, it is not the school that is open but a form of repeated ‘daycare’ “, denounces the Snuipp-FSU.
According to the union, “under the current conditions, the pupils cannot learn properly, their number being very fluctuating and hybrid teaching between face-to-face and distance learning impossible to implement”. The Snuipp-FSU also points out “the non-replacement of sick teachers which is becoming untenable”.
