ÖBB are investing 164 million euros in infrastructure
business
The money will be invested in improving the rail infrastructure in Salzburg. The responsible minister of transport, Leonore Gewessler (Greens), names faster routes and modern train stations as the final goal of the investments.
One focus of the program is traction current from hydropower. For this purpose, the ÖBB already started construction of the Tauernmoos pumped storage power plant in the municipality of Uttendorf (Pinzgau) in autumn 2020, which is continuing today.
Almost 300 million euros are to be invested in a good three years before it goes into operation. Among other things, the previous Tauernmoos Lake and the Weißsee will be connected to one another.
Extension of the timetable in northern Flachgau
Another project concerns the improvement of the timetable for commuters in northern Flachgau. This should be completed in the coming spring.
The central point is the modernization of the Neumarkt, Steindorf bei Straßwalchen (both Flachgau) and Friedburg train stations in neighboring Upper Austria.
A new stop for local transport in Flachgau is to be built in Seekirchen. Among other things, this requires masts for a new overhead line.
Further expansion of the western railway line
The four-track expansion is to be pushed ahead on the Westbahn route, because every third train in Austria is quickly on the way there. At Golling (Tennengau), the railway line is also to be improved, so that the trains can travel 20 km / h faster.
Finally, bridges will be renewed on the route between St.Johann (Pongau) and Lend (Pinzgau), in Puch near Hallein (Tennengau) and in Köstendorf (Flachgau), and the tracks including the ballast bed between Werfen and Bischofshofen (both Pongau).
Because of this extensive work, sections of the route will also be closed. The ÖBB managers assure that this will be fully informed in good time.
