Slovakia lacks young doctors for adults and children, but sometimes they have to pay tens of thousands of euros for an ambulance
For those who would also like to open an outpatient clinic, the most ideal way is to buy an already established surgery from retired doctors of retirement age. However, they often ask for a lot of money for it. The most valuable presence is not the surgery as such, but the patients who fall under it. According to the law, however, it may not be the subject of sale or purchase.
“I have a certificate in general medicine, but it is not possible to take over an ambulance, or only for big money if a person is” lucky “. That is why I return to internal medicine.” said the doctor on her social network.
“A young doctor doesn’t have the financial means to buy a medical practice,” varnish.
The amounts for the redemption are in the order of several tens of thousands of euros. For some started surgeries with a large number of patients, the outgoing doctor can calmly ask for more than 100 thousand euros.
“If the outgoing and incoming doctor agree on a so-called ambulance severance pay, it is actually the sale and redemption of the company, which is legitimate by law and no one can be prevented from doing so.” the chief physician of the Bratislava self-governing region, Tomáš Szalay, commented.
“My young colleagues are forced, if they want to take over such an ambulance, to borrow money from a bank, that is, they take out loans. Opening their own ambulance is not very worthwhile at the time.” the doctor approached.
It often takes several years for a beginning general practitioner to become profitable.
“We also saw some such examples in our region when doctors tried this and after a year, after two, they had too few patients to be self-sufficient. And they simply had to be lived by their spouses because it was a loss-making activity. wants a novice doctor and therefore discuss the possible takeover of an existing outpatient clinic. “ added Szalay.
So the most valuable thing is not the surgery as such, but the patients who fall under it, as for every one the district doctor receives capitations every month.
“However, it cannot be provided that the medical records are in no way subject to purchase and sale,” stated the chief physician of the Prešov self-governing region, Martin Jakubov.
“Certainly young young doctors are coming to buy outpatient clinics, but to come to the Bratislava self-governing region for advice. As a bonus, the young doctor starting will receive a starting bonus of 5,000 euros from the Bratislava self-governing region,” said Michal Feik, a spokesman for the Bratislava self-governing region. Szalay said he could imagine if the subsidies were higher.
Higher financial incentives could come thanks to the Recovery Plan as early as next year.
“Those doctors who open a practice in a district where there is no doctor, or people who live there have difficult availability, will also have a contribution of up to 60,000 euros from 2023,” said Zuzana Eliášová, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic.
Where there is the greatest need for doctors, new ones often do not rush. The municipalities offer them well-established surgeries with a number of patients free of charge and, in addition, various benefits.
“In my case, most doctors are retired. And I plan to have a new outpatient outpatient clinic for all patients in the future, but they are very expensive. But I believe that ultimately to the patient.” said the doctor.
