We force nurses to do cleaners and assistants. Slovakia is facing a crisis, we are not competing with the Czech Republic either
Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives points to the pay gap between Slovakia and the neighboring Czech Republic. They explain that if Slovakia does not start competing with this single country, we do not have a chance to keep our sisters and midwives at home.
The differences are the same
According to the press release, the wages of the nurses in the western neighbors, which are already at a higher level, are to increase by 6% from 1 January 2022. In our country by 3.75%, which represents an increase from € 36 to € 45 gross.
“A Czech nurse who works for an institutional health care provider will find her payslip from 1 January 2022 salary from € 1,135 (exchange rate conversion from 31 December 2021) to € 1,678, and we are talking about a nurse with the so-called . “Basic education”, ie with the professional competence to perform the work activities of a nurse (without higher education, such as specialization, or a university degree of the second degree),“Writes the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives.
They also add that the salary of a Czech nurse increases regularly according to the years of professional experience. For comparison, the Slovak nurse starts after graduation from January this year with a salary of € 1,008.
“Unlike the Czech one, her salary does not increase according to years of experience. Thus, a nurse who has just finished her studies has the same salary as a nurse with 30 or more years of experience. A nurse with a specialization is remunerated in a different way, as her work intensity is higher and her specialized activity is performed.yes, ” I write further.
We degrade sisters publicly
In the Czech Republic, therefore, a nurse can reach a maximum salary of up to € 1,810 after 32 years, and this is a basic component without bonuses. According to the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives, the Slovak nurse specialist in our country will earn a salary of € 1,228 and it does not matter whether she has a monthly or a 30-year internship.
The report also draws attention to other categories of nurses that are adequately evaluated. They therefore believe that Slovakia is facing a crisis of nursing power.

“Our system fully supports the burnout syndrome between nurses and midwives. Although we have educated nurses, we force them to perform the activities of a cleaner, paramedic, assistant and often a doctor. We are constantly seeing efforts to humiliate their education and replace them with the so-called nurses – assistants, including for reducing the quality of care and patient safety, “ they clarify, adding that we publicly degrade and insult them in this way.
The government is responsible for people’s lives
The press release also states that in 2021 Slovakia lost 965 nurses and midwives, which is more than in 2020.
“437 graduates entered the system. With a total shortage of fourteen thousand sisters, we continue the unflattering trend,“Explains the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives.
At the same time, they question the number of unnecessary deaths in Slovakia due to the appropriate number of nurses. “No one but the state – the government – is responsible for the lives of the people and also for stopping the departure of our experienced sisters, e.g. also to the Czech Republic,They conclude.
