HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie recently had to admit defeat four times in a row. In the 1: 4 defeat against HCB Südtirol Alperia, goalie René Swette kept his team in the game for a long time with a few saves. In the middle section, the 33-year-old also recorded a spectacular “behind the back” save. In the interview Swette talks about his parade and the current situation with the Tyroleans.
HC TIWAG Innsbruck – Die Haie is currently going through the most difficult phase of a good season so far. On December 23, the Tyroleans made themselves a Christmas present with a 6-2 win in Znojmo. The four subsequent games were all lost, however, it is their longest losing streak this season.
“Unfortunately we currently have a negative run. If you look at the last few games, we haven’t played bad ice hockey. But we took the chance ourselves to win the games. Hopefully we can turn that off soon, ”analyzes goalie René Swette.
Great save against Bolzano
On Tuesday, the 33-year-old kept his game long with a few saves against the attackers from HCB Südtirol Alperia. Although Vorarlberg recorded 34 saves, he too could not prevent a 4-1 home defeat. In the 30th minute, however, he provided the highlight of the evening.
From a poke, the puck landed directly on the freestanding Dustin Gazley, who did not hesitate and immediately sought the deal. What the HCB striker did not expect – Swette denied him the goal with a “behind the back” save.
“I was actually out of position and knew that something extravagant had to happen now. It was pure intuition, at this moment probably the luck of the able. I’m happy that it worked out like that, ”recalls Swette, who is spending his fourth season – interrupted by a year at his home club EHC Lustenau – at HCI.
“Every game has a playoff character”
In his ten season appearances, the two-time league champion (2008/09 and 2012/13 each with the EC-KAC) won four games and recorded a catch rate of 90.2%. Although Innsbruck recently slipped to tenth place, the battle for the playoff positions in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League is wrapped up. The gap between leader Salzburg and pursuer Bolzano (0.373) is currently greater than that between second and eleventh (0.301). “Of course we also look at the table. But first and foremost we concentrate on ourselves, because each of the upcoming games has playoff character. “
